HIPOCRACY IN RELIGIONS
JANAMTE MAANUS HOT SAB, YAH JAANAT SANSAAR ||
BANCHAK SOOD KARAVAHI, KAHAI KABIR PUKAAR ||
(All are born as human
beings and everybody knows this fact. The deceptors have divided the
Humanity into high and low)
AASAN
MAARE KYAA BHAYA, GAYI NA MAN KI AAS ||
JYON TELI KE BAIL KO, GHAR HI KOS PACHAS ||
(Just as the bullock of the oilman though near thinks it far,
in the same way, it is useless if one has perfected yogasanas but
failed to attain the mind's desires)
AATAM
BUDHI JANAI NAHIN, NHAVAI PRATAHKAAL ||
LOK LAAJ LIYAI RAHE, LAGA BHASAM KAPAAL ||
(For fear of others derision, man indulges in outward shows like
bathing at dawn, smearing ash on his forehead without bothering to
understand the real importance of self knowledge that God dwells in
him)
JAP TAP
DIKHAW THOTHRA, TIRATH BRAT BISWAS ||
SUVA SEMAL SOIAA, JYON JAG CHALAA NIRAS ||
(Just as a parrot tasting a semira bud gets stuck in its fibrous
structure, an ignorant man for mere show, visits sacred places and
worships in the temple without any results)
HINDU
MOOE RAM KAHI, MUSALMAN KHOODAAY ||
KABIR KAHAI SO JIBATAA, DOOHOON KAHA NA JAYE ||
(At the time of their death, Hindus chant the name of Rama and
Muslims that of Khuda, but neither of them remember God's name
during their lifetime)
BAAMAN SE
GADAAHA BHALA, AAN JAAT SE KUTA ||
MULLA SE MURGA BHALLA, RAAT JAGAVAI SUTA ||
(Kabir implies that by dividing men into castes, clans and creeds
encourage quarrels and feads. Better than the Brahmin is a donkey
who does useful service to man, a dog is better than a low caste as
it guards the house, a cock is better than a Mullah who wakes up a
man from his sleep)
KATHANI
THOTHI JAGAT MEIN, KARNI UTTAM SAAR ||
KAHAT KABIR KARNI SAFAL, UTARE MANJIL PAAR ||
(Man should shun idle gossip as it is useless and engage himself in
good deeds, which will lead him in reaching the goal)
HINDU
KAHE RAM MOHI PYAARAA, TURAK KAHAI RAHIMAANAA ||
AAPAS MEIN DOU LARI MUE, MARAM NA KAHU JAANAA ||
(Hindus and Muslims fight in the name of Rama and Rahim to
destruction. But neither of them understands the fact that the
Almighty is one)
KITANE
MANAAOONPAAON PARI, KITANE MANAOONROYE ||
HINDU POOJE DEBATA, TURAK NA KAHU KOY ||
(It is neither rewarding to offer worship to the stone idols in the
temple (instead of God within) as do the Hindus or to take shelter
of no God for attaining salvation (as do the Muslims). God who
dwells in the heart of every being is the one whose shelter has to
be sought)
SAADHU
BHAYA TO KYA BHAYA, JO NAHIN BOLE BICHAR ||
HATAI PARAII AATMA JEEV LIYE TARBAAR ||
(Learned man's knowledge will be of no avail to him if he does not
have control over his tongue. Due to his utterances will injure
others and will cause loss of peace of mind)
BIRTH
AND DEATH
JAISA KORI REJAA BUNAI, NEERA AAWAI CCHOR ||
ESAA LEKHA MEECH KAA, DAUR SAKE TO DAUR ||
(Just as the weaver weaving thread by thread brings the end near, in
the same way we cannot run away from death because death leads us
step by step)
ALMIGHTY GOD
PAITHA HAI GHAT BHITAR, BAITHA HAI SAACHET ||
JAB JAISI GATI CHAAHAT, ATB TAISI MATI DET ||
(The Almighty God, sitting alertly in each individual guides the
actions of man according to his (Almighty’s) will)
AADI HATI
SAB AAP MAIN, SAKAL HATI TA MAHIN ||
JYON TARAWAR KE BEEJ MAIN, DAAR PAAT PHAL CHAAHIN ||
(God is the source of all the creations of the Universe in the same
way as the seed, which holds the leaves, the branches and the
fruits)
JYON
NAINON MEIN PUTLI, TYON MAALIK GHAT MAAHIN ||
MOORAKH LOG JAAHIN, BAAHAR DHOODHAN JAAHIN ||
(God exists in one’s heart like the pupil in the eye. But ignorance
causes a man to seek him far and wide)
MIND
CONTROL AND PURITY OF MIND
BHOOP DUKHI, AWADHOOT DUKHI, DUKHI RUNK BIPARITA ||
KAHE KABEER YE SAB DUKHI, SUKHI SANT MUN JEET ||
(The king, the beggar and the saint all of them experience distress
and sorrow. Happy and content is he, who controls the mind)
MUN
PANCHI TAB LAGI UDDAI, BISAY BAASANA MAAHIN ||
GYAAN BAAJ KAI JHAPAT ME JAB LAG PADE NAAHIN ||
(‘Mind bird’ flies here and there to taste mundane pleasure as long
as the ‘knowledge-falcon’ does not take it over)
THE
PERVERSIONS
KAAM KAHAR ASWAAR HAI, SAB KO MAARE DHAYE ||
KOI EKA HARIJAN UBHARE, JAAKAA RAAM SAHAYA ||
(There are few people who by the grace of the Almighty escape the
push and pull of Kama or lust)
JO
KABAHUN KE DEKHIYE, BIR BAHAN KAI MAAAY ||
AATHA PAHAR ALAG RAHAI, TAKO KAAL NA KHAYE ||
(One who avoids casting his eyes on any woman and considers her as
sister or mother will not be devoured by death)
MOHA
(ATTACHMENT)
KABIR MAAYAA MOHINI, MAARE JAAN SUJAAN BHAAGAAHI CHUUTE NAHIN, BHARI
BHARI MARE BAAN ||
(Attachment like a tempting woman bewitches even the wise man, if
driven away, she hits back again and again)
